Hartfield Country Club

HISTORY

Hartfield Country Club is an 18-hole championship golf course situated in Forrestfield just below Lesmurdie Falls on the Darling Escarpment. Located just 20 minutes from Perth's CBD and only 5 minutes from the International Airport.

Hartfield originated in 1970 when the members of Kalamunda and Hillrose Golf Clubs joined to form a new club. Kalamunda owned it's sand green course just off Mundaring Weir Road now known as Hedley Jorgensen Reserve. Due to lack of water the Club could not progress to grass greens.

A lease of 90 hectares of the Hartfield "A" class reserve was granted by the Shire of Kalamunda and the Hartfield course opened for play in 1972 with the clubhouse following in 1975.

Established from dense virgin bush and built with the voluntary labour of Foundation Members the course winds through gently undulating terain hosting orchids, kangaroo paws, lakes, the occasional bandicoot and abundant birdlife.

Today there are approximately 900 members of Hartfield Country Club. Membership is categorised by playing rights, i.e. seven day, six day, five day, not by gender. Women are full members with equal rights. There are further categories of membership for juniors (9-17 years), intermediates (18-20 years), social and country members.

Hartfield's members are very much playing golfers. There are competitions for men on Tuesday and Thursday, women on Wednesday and Friday, men and women on Saturday and Sunday.

Hartfield is affiliated with the WA Golf Association (WAGA) and Women's Golf WA (WGWA). Members are able to participate in Open or Invitation events at other affiliated golf clubs.

Hartfield has reciprocal clubs in most capital cities of Australia and also New Zealand and Malaysia.

For the past 15 years Hartfield has been represented in the WAGA Division One Metropolitan Men's Pennant Competition, winning 5 A Grade Pennants, 9 B Grade Pennants and 3 Junior Pennants. The men have produced an Australian and world Junior Champion, a state amateur champion and two runners up and 10 state golf team representatives.

In women's golf, Hartfield has won the A grade pennant five times, had three state champions and one national champion.

Hartfield Country Club has arguably been WA's leading golf club during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Over the past ten years the Club has embarked on major upgrading of the course, irrigation and water supply and clubhouse. In excess of one million dollars has been spent to date.

In 1998 Hartfield commissioned a golf course design consultants to produce a Course Development Plan to upgrade the architecture of the course. With the correct irrigation infrastructure now in place the course will further continue to improve over the coming years.

The clubhouse provides a relaxed lounge and sports bar facility open Tuesday to Sunday. Golf attire is acceptable at all times in the clubhouse. The kitchen is open on all golf competition days serving snacks and light meals. Full meals are served for special functions and on Friday evenings during Summer Twilights.

Hartfield is open to public players on Monday and Tuesday and bookings can be made through the Pro Shop on 9453 9194. Corporate groups are also welcome.
