Junior Golf Program

Juniors are most welcome, with a competition on Sunday mornings.

Hartfield aims are to provide quality coaching programs for juniors 16 years and younger who are interested in the game of golf.  These programs are designed to provide children with the opportunity to have fun, improve their golf and technique, build friendships, and introduce them to competitive golf.

The Super 9-hole junior competition on 2nd November was a wonderful occasion with 40 entries from children aged 9-16 years. There was an excellent array of talent with many scoring near or below their handicaps. It was also a day of fun and with lots of free gifts and prizes no one went away empty-handed!! Thank you to all those parents who attended or caddied for their children, all of whom were impeccably dressed and well behaved. Even after the main presentations the children found enough energy to have an impromptu putting competition.

The open day also featured a presentation from Mr Greg Maynard of Darling Range Sports' College(DRSC). In Partnership with Hartfield Country Club the DRSC is developing in 2009 a unique schools Golf program for a maximum of TEN selected students. The practical instruction will be delivered twice a week by Rob Nuttall, Club Professional at HCC. The academic program at DRSC provides the students with an opportunity to enhance their golf through the completion of the Athlete Development Program; and by Year 12 to complete a Certificate 11 in Sport or to use the study of golf and their practical skill as a University Entrance subject. If you are interested or want to find out more contact Greg Maynard on 9453 0100. This is a unique opportunity that should not be missed.

Many thanks to all those who sponsored the day - David Holt (Westate Finance), Coca-Cola, Mias Bakery - and all those members of the Junior Council who helped on the day (Chris Holmes, Rob Nuttall, Bill Kinsella, David Holt, Keith van den Berg, John Hollier , Leanne Agnew, Maryanne Wright and junior Co-Ordinator - Nigel Leaves). It is hoped that this will become an annual event; and that we will attract more juniors to our wonderful club.

RULES GURU
There have been some rule changes in golf this year. The major ones are (1) if a player whose ball accidently deflects and strikes either his playing partner or their equipment (ie bag) or him/herself shall now incur a one shot penalty (used to be two shot penalty) and (2) a player (with your partner's permission) may mark, and lift without penalty a ball in a bunker of water hazard for identification purposes (ie there may two balls in a bunker or hazard). However, if you hit the wrong ball in a bunker or hazard it is a two shot penalty.

ENJOY YOUR GOLF. It's a great game.

If you need to contact me phone 9383 2774.

I hope to see more of you on Sunday mornings.
