Orange tees

I have set out a short course with orange tee markers to help make our challenging championship golf course more enjoyable for new Junior’s, Ladies and our aging existing members.

The short course is being implemented at many clubs in the Eastern States and America

The ideology behind the short course is to make the game of golf fun for people taking up golf and return the fun aspect for aging members who can no longer reach the greens in regulation on the full championship course. Everyone wants to have the opportunity to putt for birdie and par, not just reach the green with one stroke remaining to score.

The short course also helps to build Junior and Lady membership categories as well as retain senior members.

Our full championship golf course is 6186 metres in length. The short course will be approximately 4000 metres in length (after any final adjustments of tee placement) for all categories of player.

The intention is to have a one month trial period for members and introductory program participants to provide feedback on tee placement and game enjoyment.

Once the short course design is finalised GolfWA will rate it for competition play.

I look forward to your feedback on the short course.

July Monthly Mug.

Due to decreased daylight hours the July Monthly Mug Sponsored by TL Carpentry, will be a shotgun start 715AM and !2.15PM. Once again members are requested to remain or return for Presentations.

 Bunkers (Still, again, really!!!!)

Please ensure that after playing your shot or retrieving your ball from a bunker, you rake all affected area’s including footprints, returning the rake to the middle of the bunker tynes facing up. If you expect YOUR ball to in a decent lie, you should leave the bunker in good order so that others can have a decent lie in bunkers as well.

 Enjoyment and expectation.

How do you approach your round of golf? Do you expect to score par on every hole? The answer to the second question is YES if you are a scratch golfer. For the rest of us our expectations generally outweigh our ability and as a result can detract from the enjoyment of the game itself.

One way to improve your enjoyment of our challenging Championship Golf course is to adjust your thinking. Whilst a scratch golfer should expect to shoot a Par 72, a twelve handicapper should expect to shoot 84(par 72 + 12). A 27 Handicapper should expect to shoot 99(par 72 +27)

A twelve handicap should realistically expect to have six pars and twelve bogies(net par’s). Any birdies are a bonus and double bogies should raise the questions why? Have did I do that? Poor shot selection? Poor shot execution? Poor setup/ ball position. When did you last practice or have lesson?

If we all adjust our expectations, this should enhance our enjoyment of our fantastic golf course.

Have fun’

Peter
