Junior Boys Pennant finals

Junior Boys Pennant finals

The boys battled it out against Joondalup at Joondalup.  They took it to the home side and were 2 and 2 with the final group being number 4 Mitchell Smith all square 4 to play.

Will and Eli had tough games, both of their opponents playing well below their number, Marshall and & Patrick both had strong wins leaving us to follow Mitch for the last few holes, match in the balance.

Both Mitch and his opponent were playing out of their skin, excellent golf by both, a couple of narrowly missed Putts and Mitch found himself dormie 2 down.  Bombed a drive on Quarry 8 over the bunkers, won the hole with a solid par… 1 down 1 to play..  Mitch had the whole of both sides watching on and he laced a 300m drive over the bunker leaving himself about 70m to the stick.

Joondalup player also a nice long straight drive.  In the end Mitch had a 10ft Par Putt to force extra time but the putter said no.  So a gallant showing for us to go down 3 & 2.  3 had never played the course and the other 2 only once or twice.

The golf was high standard and all the boys should be proud of the way they played, and we as a club can all be proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the season.

Well done.  I’m sure next year will have a few more W’s too.

Captain Newsletter February 2025

Captain Newsletter February 2025

Hello Members, and a belated Happy New Year from myself and the Match Committee.

  • Course – Our Course is looking fantastic, despite the extreme heat over the last month. Great work by Nick and his team. The first tee is nearing completion and the works to the front gate and cart shed will be completed in the next week.

  • Membership – Our 7 day membership has now reached capacity with over 30 people on the waitlist. This is fantastic news and a clear testament to both the growing popularity of golf and the dedication of those working behind the scenes to make our club a great place to play. To ensure we continue to manage demand and maintain strong membership we will be introducing a nomination fee for new members. This will help support the ongoing development of the club and recognise the value of being a member of Hartfield Country Club.

  • 2025 Pennants – As we embark on the New year. I’m keen to keep our club as strong contenders in all divisions of the competition. WA Golf have reverted back to 7 players in a team, and scrapped the group of four format after a problematic trial last year.

Once again, I will endeavour to keep the impact of the competition to a minimum for non-competing members when we are the hosts.

I take the view that this is a great challenge for our competing members and we are a “Club” first and not just a golf course.

The Senior Pennants start soon and I have received all applications. I’m pleased to announce that Gary Martin & Gavin Doull will be team               Captains this year. Huge thank you to David Ball who has chosen not Captain this time around.

I will be putting up an application sheet for the our Mens Pennant teams

(Div 2,4,5,6,7,7 & 8) on the notice board in the next few weeks. Anyone interested in playing/coordinating or managing our Pennant team              please put your name down as I expect competition to be strong once again.

  •  Heat Policy – We have now incorporated a heat policy into our by-laws. This will hopefully remove any confusion in the future. As I said last year, we need to support Brian & Nick as much as possible, and if our golfing days are impacted occasionally then so be it. I share your frustration, but we are all working in the best interests of the club and course.

  • No Shows – With our membership now at capacity, competition places are in high demand, and no-shows have a significant impact on fellow members. Whilst I understand unavoidable circumstances may arise, the club will be taking a firm stance on repeated no-shows moving forward.

Aligned with that, “Blocking out” groups will also be monitored as the club has the ability to see who has made the bookings, all members           should have the opportunity to participate in a competition.

If you would like a Tee-time outside of the normal booking options due to a special occasion (family visit etc.), then email the club or myself         and it will be addressed on a case by case basis.

  • Competitions – It has come to our attention that some members have been taking a drop ball from the approximate area where they believe their ball was lost in the bush after teeing off.

This is not within the rule of golf, and must stop immediately. The correct procedure under the Rules of Golf must be followed at all times.              Any player caught doing this during a competition will be disqualified, and further penalties may be imposed. We expect all members to               uphold the integrity of the game and play by the rules. If you are unsure about a specific rule then ask your playing partner, followed by               the  pro-shop.

As we begin another lap around the sun, I encourage everyone to focus on the many positives that make our club such a great place to be. While challenges and occasional frustrations are inevitable, they should never overshadow our success and enjoyment we all share at being a member at Hartfield. Let’s continue fostering a welcoming and competitive spirit that makes it special.

Here’s to a great 2025!

Kind Regards,

Paul.
