Captain Newsletter April 2025

Captain Newsletter April 2025

Hello Members, as we move into the holiday period, I’d like to take this opportunity to keep you updated on what’s been happening around the club as well as what’s coming up.

2025 Pennants

· The ladies have kicked off the season in fantastic form and are currently sitting joint top of the table. Well done to everyone involved. Let’s keep the momentum going.

·   Mens
Senior Pennants season has officially commenced. We’re proud to have three teams competing for flags this year, all proudly wearing our sharp new Pennant uniforms. Best of luck to all players – Lets make it a strong season gentlemen.

·          Mens Pennants – Preparation for the Men’s Pennant season is now in full swing, and nominations have officially closed. With strong competition for limited spots, we’re excited to field seven teams this year. A fantastic show of depth and commitment from our members. If you are selected you will be notified by the team captains in the coming weeks. Thanks to everyone who put their names forward, and best of luck for a great season ahead!

Out on the course

The grass is finally down on the 1st Tee! No more sandblasting when teeing off, which I’m sure all our members are pleased about! With the turf now in place, we’ll begin repositioning the sand and signage to complete the area. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy the improved area around the Tee box.

A blue line will go across the fairways very soon, as a “Do Not Cross’ line for carts around the greens. Please adhere to this to protect our high traffic points in the cooler/wetter months.

A big shout to Tony Downey for his hard work in making the new Tee markers! His effort and craftmanship have added a great touch to the course, we truly appreciate the time and effort you have put in. Next time you are out on the course, take a moment to check his handiwork – and give Tony a well-deserved pat on the back.

A big thank you to Chris Holmes and his team for their continued efforts out on the course. The increased marshalling has been a great help in keeping play moving, and their work in managing the GUR areas hasn’t gone unnoticed. Your support and dedication are greatly appreciated by the club.

Safety Reminder – While taking on the green can be an exciting high risk, high reward play, it is absolutely essential to ensure the green is clear before attempting  this shot. We’ve had recent instances where players on the putting green were put at risk, and safety must always come first. Please exercise caution and sound judgement – No shot is worth endangering fellow members.

The clocks for out on the course have now finally arrived, you’ll start to see them being positioned over the coming weeks. These will be a great addition help keep pace of play flowing smoothly and ensure everyone enjoys their round.

As we start moving into the winter months, we will begin reducing our tee time slots to align with shorter daylight hours. Naturally, this will have an impact on the number of players we can accommodate in the field. Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation and do our best to maximise playing opportunities while working within the constraints of daylight.

Around the Club

Lawson Fresher & Nic White – Congratulations to Lawson and Nic who qualified for the prestigious Dubai matchplay tournament!

The competition wrapped up last week on some of the courses featured on the DP tour. The boys did us proud, finishing 14th overall in a highly competitive field .

A fantastic achievement! Well done, Gents!

  • Annie Kok, the Ladies Captain takes my hard earned money (AGAIN!).

And finally…

As you are all probably aware by now, Nick Kinley, our superintendent, is moving on to pastures new. Over the past 11 years, Nick has served the club with outstanding dedication and has been instrumental in presenting the course in the immaculate condition that we’ve all come to enjoy and appreciate. On behalf of myself and the Match committee, I’d like to sincerely thank Nick for his tireless efforts and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours. He will be sorely missed by all at the club.

Kind Regards,

Paul.
